What’s in a name?

MP900409566

Twenty years
ago Tired Papa and I got married.

Yes,
we celebrated our twentieth wedding anniversary a few weeks ago.

And
yes, I'm still happy I married him.

Honest.

But
twenty (plus) years ago I decided that I would keep my last name when I got
married.

At
the time, (I'm told) I also promised my fiancé that if we made it to twenty
years of wedded bliss I would take his name.

I
must admit I find it weird that the man who can't remember to turn off the
bathroom light is reminding me of a promise I made twenty plus years ago.

But,
anyhow –

Tired
Papa's last name is the surname of our three children. It's also the last name
of our dog and cat – at least according to our vet.

So,
friends? I guess I'm about to change my name.

And
you know what? I now wish I'd done it twenty years ago when there was cake,
presents and dancing involved.

At
least when we got married there was a party attached to all this paperwork, now
it's just another thing to check off on my already very long to-do list.

But,
I’ll get it done.

Eventually.

And
I’ll even try and do it before another twenty years go by.

Promise.

  2. I changed my name when I got married, and lately I’ve been feeling like I shouldn’t have – just due to peer pressure, I seem to be the only mommy in the school yard who didn’t keep her maiden name. But I’m super happy for you, and heartened by your decision to go through with it – this definitely calls for cake, if not a full-on party!
