I’m a taxi

I seem to be spending a lot of time in my van lately.

Yep, my kids have all reached the age where they have places to be and they need me to get them there. I car-pool to make it more efficient but really? Most nights I am driving from 3 pm to 8 pm at night – that's 5 hours.

5.

That is 25 hours a week.

That's crazy!

It didn't start out this way, I was actually pretty good this year at cutting back on my kid's extra-curricular activities. The problem is my kid's teams/activities are all going well and since my kids are 'winning' all of a sudden they're now off to the provincials or nationals or play-off rounds and that has stretched our winter activities season into spring.

This also means that extra practices have now been added for the extra 'play-off' games. Add to that the new spring activities that have started which are now being layered on top of the extended winter activities and guess what?

My evenings are gone and I'm driving kids everywhere.

I love my kids, I want them to succeed but you know what? I'm tired of driving. I want my evenings back.

So now I'm praying for them to lose.

Yep, lose.

Just please, don't tell my kids that, okay?

Sigh.

  1. oh man!
    it’ll be over soon…..
and let me just give you the flip side, to help you feel better (maybe??)
my parents pretty much refused to bring me to anything. so i was the unfortunate dork who alllllwwwayyys had to bum rides off of people or sheepishly ask (yet again) can i have a ride home from band practice.
and it never ever being paid back.
    so-
think of it as bonding time, and know that your kids will never think you weren’t “there” for them.

  2. LOL Oh hon I feel your pain:) (and I won’t tell, I was secretly glad when my girls decided not to play baseball this year as it cuts out at least 4 hours of driving a week) Oh the things we do!

  3. That reminds me of the angst I always felt during BB season. If they won, we’d have to play more. If they lost, their season was over. I didn’t want them to lose but damn I was tired of my weekends being tied up at BB games. And BB season seemed to go on FOREVER!
