Oh my goodness.

Okay, this is the Michelin Man.

Michelin man

And yes, when I go outside today this is sorta what I look like, only I have black boots and my blue scarf doesn't go down to my waist. No, I will not be posting any pictures of myself. It's not my best look.

-40F is the same as -40C. It's the only time they're the same. And yes, in Canada we use degrees Celsius not Fahrenheit. I think it's only the USA who still uses Fahrenheit and uh, Belize. And no, I have no idea why the USA is different from the rest of the world.

Yes, -30C/-22F is cold. And no, we don't cancel school here when it gets that cold, and yes, the kids do go out for recess.

No, my teen daughter didn't wear the ugly pants or the tights to school in the cold. She did however agree to pull on track pants under her skirt for the drive there.

If you have no idea what this post is about, I'm trying to save some time by mass answering the questions generated by my previous two posts. I'm getting a lot of questions e-mailed to me recently - I'm obviously not being very clear. Sorry.

Oh, and a tea towel is the cloth thingy you dry dishes with. Do you not call them that in the western States? Hmmm, maybe you call them dish towels instead? I don't honestly know.

That's it.

Feel free to e-mail me with any more questions. I like feeling helpful.

  1. It is CRAZY cold out there. I wore snow pants just to drive the kids to school!
I had to go over to the school mid-morning to do some PTA stuff and I was surprised to see the kids were not outside for recess. I think they had tried — a lot of them were wearing coats and snowpants — but they were actually just sitting around in hallways and classrooms, watching videos. I guess even Canadians have their limit!

  2. I was in Dawson City Yukon once and it was 50 below. No windchill. That was the temperature. I put mascara on and my friend laughed. When you walk outside and it is that cold, your mascara just shatters off your eyelashes.
I dressed warmly today. But there is something magical about a deeply frozen world, at least out here in the country!

  3. I’m so glad to hear that your kids go to school in sub zero temperatures. My husband just told me that our local schools were canceled today because it was 15 degrees. I couldn’t believe!!

  4. Okay, we weren’t -40 today, but we were about -15 with the wind chill. The kids were disappointed because they had school. -40 is crazy cold! Our dogs were very unhappy about going out this morning and were back in the house in less than a minute. Stay warm! Glad I inspired you with my post today. At least you didn’t have anyone giggling at you!
