The best thing about my thirteen year old daughter going away for a week is that her room stays VERY clean when she’s not there. The worst thing? How much I miss her smile and you know, just having her here.Three more days until she gets back. Not that I’m counting or anything. Okay, I am.

I was flipping through child care books at the local bookstore yesterday and I read a quote that told me as a parent I shouldn’t be asking my kids what they want to be when they grow up, but rather I should be asking them who they want to be. Interesting.

Canadians have a funny habit of decorating with twigs and branches over the winter months. This decorating look is taking a while to grow on me – no pun intended. So today I threw out everything on my porch and put some pots of flowers on my front steps. It is still dropping close to freezing at night here though so I’m going to have to bring the flowers in at night or cover them. I give myself two nights before I forget and they freeze.

That’s all I got. What’s going on with you?

  1. Wait a minute – you mean it’s possible for a daughter’s room to BE clean? I don’t have one of those daughters.
    K misses J too.

  2. The fact that you miss your 13-year old bodes well for the future. If you aren’t ready to throw her out of the window of a moving car by now, you might just survive the teen years.

  3. I like the clean room part, but completely understand missing her. What is this weird relationship we have with our teens? I mean, when they’re there we can’t seem to get along wtih them and when they’re gone we miss them terribly. Or maybe that’s just me.
