Me

Passwords

How many passwords do you have for your computer? I suspect that most people are like me and only have a couple. I probably use the same password on about ten sites and today I have no idea what that is. I hate getting old.

My big question of the day however is why do I need passwords anyway?

I can see needing a pin for getting at banking sites, and that is the one place where I actually do have a different password. But do I really need a password for the sites where I look at my collector points and check for recipes? Who cares if someone is sneaking a peak at the seven different ways you can serve chicken recipies that I saved in the Kraft Food site.

Is it important that I am the only one who knows what size my child is at Lands End and LL Bean? I reenter my credit card information every time anyway, so that’s not the point.

Besides once people sort out my reusable password, which I suspect would be fairly easy for anyone who knows even the basics about me to figure out, they’re gonna have all this valuable information anyway. Just to save you all the trouble, I’m a size eight ten and I always buy blue.

So I say let’s get rid of passwords. I can’t remember them anyway so what’s the point? If retailers really want to protect their sites let’s just skip straight to the security question and cut out the middle man all together.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go and check my in-box, I think by now I should have received my temporary password. I think my new password will be somthing like; RememberMeStupid. That should work.

Sigh.

  1. I always use the same password, but I spell it differently and substitute numbers for letters. So I can just sit there trying different versions until one sticks. Someone somewhere is working on a universal ID thing for this purpose so you never have to sign in again. There are a lot of reasons why it probably wouldn’t work though.

  2. I tend to use the same one or two passwords for everything. I do have a credit card account that I can NEVER remember the password or my ID. This site, for security reasons, makes me pick one with numbers and letters and I don’t normally do that and can’t ever get into that site.
